Annual Day Celebrations of East Cultural Association, Bangalore
BANGALORE: The East Cultural Association (ECA) on Saturday celebrated its 38th annual celebrations with much pomp and gaiety.  ECA was started 38 years back by a group of dedicated migrants, who wanted to establish a place for their social activities. Over these years, ECA has stood out as a dignified and unique family which has been growing in a distinguished and phased manner.  Today the club has around 1500 members.

The celebration started off fully packed at the ECA Silver Jubilee Auditorium, 100 ft road, Indiranagar. The annual day celebration was blessed by the presence of Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Ex Minister J. Alexander, IAS.

The event was organized by the ruling committee consisting of President, K. V. Jose; Vice President, Philip Cherian; General Secretary, Tony Vincent; Joint Secretary, Jose James; and Treasurer, Vikraman Pillai.

The achievements of the club in the year 2012-2013 were highlighted.  Some of the main events were:  The Onam celebrations with the three-day cultural program and the Onasadya for 2000 people is unmatched in any migrant community.  The ladies wing “Sthree” which was started this year is a forum for women in ECA where they can interact actively, voice their opinion, and find solution to their needs.  They have already conducted programmes like dance festivals and cookery classes too.  Drama workshop conducted by the acclaimed theatre personality Jayaprakash Kullur have motivated and directed members to present several interesting skits.

“East Cultural Association is the pride of every Malayalee,” said Tony Vincent, the general secretary.

Ramalinga Reddy, MLA, BTM Layout was the chief guest, and to mark the occasion inaugurated the newly started gymnasium and the modern lounge bar.

The evening was followed by a musical event by Anoop Shankar, a leading play back singer in Malayalam and other South Indian languages. His album “Kurutham kettavan” was one of the top hits in 2010.
